Falfish Policy
It is our policy to take an active role to engage with all sectors of the industry, catchers, environmentalists, government agencies to achieve a sustainable fishery for the southwest of England. Invest in Fish Southwest is an £1.8 million ocean recovery project backed by WWF
Falfish has embraced MSC accredited fisheries such as hand line caught Cornish Mackerel and is working with Seafood Cornwall to help achieve further fisheries to be certified such as Cornish Ring net sardines, line caught Seabass and line caught Pollack.
Cornwall is leading the way with proactive measures such as:
- The Fisheries Science Partnership initiatives in Cornwall
- Trevose Head sea area seasonal closure during spawning times
- A growing line caught fishery for Mackerel, Sea bass, Pollack and Squid
- A catching vessel profile with a high proportion of inshore smaller fishing vessels means lower impact per coastal mile.
- The southwest has mixed fisheries with diverse species which enables the fishing effort to be spread. There are a wealth of non-quota species in the Western approaches and English Channel which are non-pressure stocks.
- Locally caught fish means a much lower carbon foot-print compared to flown in fish.
